For politicians, it’s a form of digital hustings, giving them a chance to set up stall in the place where young people are meeting. And for brand promoters, it’s an instant insight into what young people like and dislike

The government has ordered Deputy Prime Minister Kobsak Sapavasu to sort out the mess.
He estimates it has already cost 11 billion baht ($325m) just to process and store crops bought under the mortgage scheme.
And because rice prices have fallen this year, when the government sells the stocks he estimates it will lose another 20 billion baht ($590m).
“The numbers are just unbelievable,” says Mr Kobsak.
But his attempts to close down the mortgage scheme, and replace it with a simpler subsidy, have been blocked by his own coalition partners.

Khartoum is becoming a huge construction site
High-rise buildings are under construction in Khartoum, Khartoum North and Omdurman, the three districts that make up the capital.
While not skyscrapers in the New York mould, the buildings, which reach 15 stories high, are being built in areas of the city that are close to the main business districts and where local services are good.
And the designs can be dramatic. The al-Fateh Tower is one such building which would not look out of place in Dubai.
But the trend is spreading to other parts of Khartoum.

Singapore’s leisure sector is hoping cheaper air fares will attract more tourists, but both corporate and leisure travellers are tightening their belts.
“Attractive flight deals have certainly helped to soften the impact and provided a much-needed stimulus to travel bookings,” said Robert Bailey, CEO of Abacus International.
“In a recent survey, an emerging trend for shorter, more regular intra-Asia and domestic travel rather than few long haul trips was identified.”
There are signs of optimism, helped by a quick recovery of Singapore’s Asian neighbours, particularly China.

Scientists in Australia have designed T-Shirts that play music when the person wearing the shirt plays the air guitar. The T-Shirts can be worn by those who are right handed or left handed and no prior musical ability is required. As long as people can make the guitar playing motions, they will be able to sound as if they are really playing the instrument.
The T-Shirts are equipped with sensors that pick up body movements. Sounds are made when people move their bodies pretending to play the guitar. The concept behind this new musical instrument was designed by a team of scientists from the Belmont Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation in Australia.

Dr. Richard Helmer, one of the scientists involved in the project said, “It’s an easy-to-use, virtual instrument that allows real-time music-making, even by players without significant musical or computing skills. It allows you to jump around and the sound generated is just like an original mp3.”

However piracy is a big problem in China; this is where sixty per cent of the world’s fake fashion is made. The Chinese authorities have recognized it is a problem and are trying to eradicate the problem. Some of the larger companies such as Gucci regularly change their designs on their apparel such as T-Shirts. When Georgio Armani set up a store in a China he insisted on having a red lacquered door to appeal to his Asian customers. There is a large demand for clothing that is made in Italy because of the status symbol. Consumers do not want to look closely at a product and see a made in China label. It is predicted that China will soon be catching up with American and Japanese consumer trends. This continent has a one-child policy and this creates a market where parents can happily indulge and spoil their child. This is a fantasy area for companies.
